She was a volleyball player according to her social media. She was scheduled to play a game against Penn State Greater Allegheny on Monday, according to her Penn State York sports profile.

He coach, Keith Hartman, was one of the first people to post about Groft’s sudden passing, saying in part, “This has been so heartbreaking for myself, my family and her teammates...I've coached Courtney since she was 16 and it was an honor for me when she decided to come play for me at Penn State York.”

She was one of a kind,” her friends said on the campaign page. “We all want to come together to help out her family with whatever expenses they come across during this very difficult time.”

The campaign launched Monday morning and in less than seven hours it has already raised more than $6,000 of a $10,000 goal.
